Had a wonderful weekend celebrating Independence Day. The City of Mesa sponsored the most fabulous fireworks display launched from the top of Mesa's downtown civic buildings. They also provided a great gathering place downtown with all kinds of game booths, car & motorcycle displays, and bounce houses both dry and wet. Colleen & I manned one of the bounce houses. We saw lots of happy children. We were impressed by all of the volunteers from church & scout organizations that helped to make it all possible. Many people were surprised to find out that all the booths and games, as well as the fireworks show, were free to the public. Sunday we stood with the congregation and sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" and other patriotic hymns. Lots of people stood and gave thanks for our inspired constitution and the freedoms guaranteed thereby as well as those who have fought and died to defend it. Did you know that no country had a written constitution prior to the United States, while today most countries do? We believe that our Heavenly Father inspired men to write this document to protect us from those who would take away our freedoms. The slogan of "No Taxation without Representation" was coined to fight against a $6.00 per year tax. I imagine our founders rolling over in their graves knowing about our current taxes. At least we have representation, right? We had such a great weekend that we're going to celebrate on the actual signer's day (Wednesday July 4) by holding a BIG SALE at The Door & Trim Store. We'll be open from at least 8 AM to Noon. We will have special pricing on BHP hardware, Doors, and Baseboard. Come in and place your orders before the barbecue or whatever else you are doing to celebrate the Fourth. Click on BIG SALE to receive weekly specials and updates on your mobile phone. |
